Vacation homes in a cluster of restored old farmhousesThe old cluster of farmhouses, subject of this restoration and landscaping project, presents anexcellent example of typical country living in rural areas in Umbria.Before modern times, farmhouses in the region were conveniently built along country roads in midstof cultivated farmland for easy living and dispatching farm production.
The houses were usuallybuilt on two floors, farmers' families on the upper floor and cattle on the ground floor.
the area ofthe habitat evolved according to its inhabitants' needs, adapting existing living spaces to largerfamilies by adding from time-to-time new structures, and various faculties. Typical buildings in suchsettlements were built of local stone covered by terracotta tile roofs.
From the beginning of the 20 th Century, and especially after World War II, when growing citiesoffered new opportunities of employment, people migrated from rural Italy to urban areas lookingfor better living. This resulted in the abandonment of many rural settlements, which slowlydegraded and became mere ruins.
In recent years, the authorities, in association with countycouncils, adopted master plans designated to restore life in deserted farm houses in rural areas, thiswas often conceived by restoring the old houses and redesigning interior spaces converting them totourists' use.
Campecolle Alto restoration project, an old cluster becomes a 5 stars' tourist resort.The original agricultural Cluster was situated high on a hill , near Umbertide in the NicconeValley which connects Umbria and Tuscany, the area is characterized by cultivated farm land,orchards of various kinds, olive groves, vineyards and forests is known as "the green heart of Italy".
Materializing the restoration project took over 10 years, the old houses were dismantledsafeguarding the original materials for reuse, and then reconstructed to become a high-class touristresort.
There are 14 apartments in the residence, spread in 3 major buildings, and 3 freestandinghouses, it is built on an area of 35000 sq.m. of land.
The project is designed to provide for greenliving in a nature friendly environment, including independent water supply, a plan for a solar fieldfor electricity production and a biodegrading waste sewage system designed in accordance with theseverest environmental codes.
Every apartment has its' own garden and private access to insure complete privacy.
The houses areset amidst gardens, green areas and residence facilities which include ample parking places and alarge infinite heated swimming pool which is situated in a privileged position, the landscape plan ofthis project was awarded an international prize of excellence in 2020.'Campecolle Alto' residence is easily reachable by car, from Rome airport- 2.5 hours' drive, fromFlornce airport- 1.5 hours' drive, and from Perugia airport 20 minutes' drive.
It is ideally located forvisiting Umbria, Tuscany and Marche regions with cities like Siena, Florence, Cortona and Perugianearby and typical medieval Assisi, Gubio, Citta' di Castello and many others at a hand reach.
